Alexander McQueen

Alexander McQueen was born in Lewisham (London), in March of 1969.

Alexander McQueen suffered the incomprehension of those who are ahead of the times. From her childhood she had a clear idea of being “something in the world of fashion”, since she was 12 years old she became interested in bibliographies referring to fashion and when she was 16 years old she left her studies and began to move towards what she wanted that began to work in a tailor shop, then after two years he traveled to Milan and worked hand in hand with another designer, after this internship he decided to do a master’s degree in design, he graduated and his graduation collection was purchased in its entirety by the Influential fashion stylist Isabela Blow, she became a great friend and a great support for her career as she cleared the way for Alexander McQueen to use his style and gave him all his contacts to help him.

The first collections of Alexander McQueen were controversial with pants called “Bumster” that created a trend in the low rise Jeans that brought many comments and debates, it was also known to use skulls in their designs, a scarf with that motive became a essential celebrity and was copied all over the world. His designs offered a revolution in fashion, he was considered a genius, he combined the emotional power and the raw energy of his shows, also because of the romantic and contemporary nature of his collections he could combine discordant elements such as fragility and strength, tradition and modernity, fluidity and severity. His parades were dramatic, he was credited with bringing drama and extravagance to the catwalk, and he used cutting edge technology to add a different twist to his shows to impress the audience.

He then partnered with Gucci with expansion plans, which included the opening of stores in Milan, and New York and the launch of his perfume Kingdam and My Queen. He also worked with the Puma brand to create a special line of footwear.

The McQueen collections combine the knowledge of tailor-made British Tailoring and the craft work of the French haute couture atelier and the impeccable finish of Italian manufacture.

Also, McQueen created a line for young and lower-priced men and women, Mc Queen became the first designer to participate in MAC’s launch promotion of cosmetics created by fashion designers, that collection was launched in 2007.

Unfortunately Alexander McQueen committed suicide in his home, in 2010 at age 40; his death was an earthquake for his family and also for the fashion industry. The legacy of audacity and theatricality of Alexander McQueen is still alive in his successor Sarah Burton, who has added another dimension of usability to the controversial silhouettes and haute couture finishes of the designer. Sara Burton was the designer who dressed the Duchess of Cambridge at her wedding, which was precisely signed by Alexander McQueen.
